“Day 3:

On Monday, we rented a Harley through EAGLE RIDER OF SEDONA.

The folks at the shop were absolutely fantastic. They were so friendly and helpful and theyalso have a beautiful dog that roams around the store who is an awesome little greeter.

My husband and I are fairly new to the world of motorcycle riding so they went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, as well as to map out a route that best fit our interests, the weather and my husband’s skill level with the motorcycle. We drove out to the quirky little town of JEROME which is an old mining town that is now part ghost-town, part artists’ community. Jerome is packed with a whole bunch of interesting and unusual shops and restaurants. We easily could have spent a whole day there wandering the shops, but we had to get back on the bike. We ate lunch at the ASYLUM restaurant at the JEROME GRAND HOTEL, which is reportedly haunted.

On the way back, we drove out and back along Hwy 260, east of I-17 south of Sedona, which is a beautiful, winding road heading up into the mountains.

The ride, as well as our interactions with the staff at EagleRider, was a great experience we will never forget.”

When it’s snow and ice in Flagstaff, at 7000 feet, and crap all the way up to Durango and Teluride it’s almost balmy here at EagleRider of Sedona.

Remember, Harley Davidson rental deals for $75 Mon-Thurs, 9AM-5PM and only $99 on weekends, same times. Ask about an electric vest, and we’ll load it on the bike for you for a lot of extra comfort for the money. Jerome, Page Springs, Oak Creek Canyon and, Sedona itself, make for a great motorcycle day ride.

Hi To All of You Wonderful People

We arrived home safely last night. Pretty tired today and trying to get back into the swing of things. I hate vacations coming to the end,but what a FABULOUS time we had. Sedona is just beautiful. Meeting all of you was such a pleasure. You truly directed us to a lot of beautiful places. We have both agreed that renting the Harley was the highlight of our vacation. You are all so wonderful and helpful. It really was a joy to meet you. We wish you the best of luck in your journey. Let’s keep in touch. Oh Yeah!!!! The kids LOVED the cowgirl boots. They got a kick out of them. We will be sure to send you a picture of Lilah when shes born with them on.

We recommend the Red Agave Resort. It is located about a mile from EagleRider of Sedona’s front door and it features awesome overlooks of Bell Rock (below) and Castle Rock.

Guests of EagleRider receive 15% off the posted rate for both Red Agave’s chalets and also its efficiency units. The chalets are great for two couples. When you’re back from a tour on a Harley or an enduro bike through Northern Arizona’s canyons, plains and deserts, try throwing your leg over a mountain bike or go hiking, both just around the corner from the Red Agave.

15. I am not the iron-ass I used to be. I’ll ride yours before I ride mine out from Boston.

16. I own a ’72 Shovehead. I’d rather ride a Harley that works.

17. Putting my girlfriend in an Electra Glide seat was the only way she’d let me do this.

19. I’m an investment banker. This is what my my alter ego makes me do on weekends.

Many folks Ride the Southwest out of Sedona and miss one of the most enchanting and enriching experiences you will ever have. “Reservation Rides” from Sedona are a combination of blasts through high plains desert to three Native American destnations and each one is a treasure. So, once you’ve ridden Route 66 and have the Grand Canyon out of your system, try these:

1. The HOPI Mesas: Head north on SR 87 from Winslow across the Painted Desert to SR 264 and there they are. Three Hopi Villages on top of three mesas: Walpi (below) is a Hopi village atop first mesa. This is a ride the delivers you into another culture and people, where you can stay the night, have a HOPI meal and leave a little different than when you arrived.

2. Canyon De Chelly (pron. “Shay”): Head from the Hopi Mesas east on SR264 and then north on SR191 to Chinle. Make sure to stop into the Hubbell Trading Post about 10 miles beyond the turn to Chinle in a place called Ganado. The Canyon de Chelly is a kind if miniature Grand Canyon, and it sustains a living community of Navajo people, who farm its floor. This is Spider Rock (below) that provides a sense of scale. Priceless!

3. Monument Valley: North from the Canyon de Chelley on SR 191 to Bluff, Utah, then west on SR 163 to enter the Valley from the North which is the most spectacular direction to see it from. You’ve seen Monument Valley in movies and in the one that plays in your head about the awesome, barren beauty of the Southwest. This is Navajo Reservation land and worth the ride, although stops at roadside craft stalls will bring you back to earth relative to the economics of making a living out here.
